They say the 😈 is in the details, and there is They say the 😈 is in the details, and there is truth to that...   To balance some of the traditional elements, I used these modern hollow metal balusters to contrast some more traditional stair rods   For me, the icing on the cake are these stair rods Originally, I was thinking of making some rods myself. I was going to paint metal tubes or wood dowels to look like brass and find brackets that would work, and it would have looked like a diy and that might have been ok   But I didn't want it to look just "ok".... I wanted it to look great! WOWZA I did it 🎊 Next major living room miles WOWZA I did it 🎊 Next major living room milestone, achieved! I'm so over-the-moon with how this stair makeover turned out! With the help of the @homedepot and Orange Tank at Haven, I... ✅ removed the ugly old carpet ✅ sanded the treads ✅ painted the stairs black (and saved by getting 'oops' paint) ✅ Installed a new newel post, railing, and balusters ✅ Secured my vintage rug with rods, tape, and rug pad Can you believe this before and after?! I had quite a bit of trouble getting these balusters to work correctly I paused and came back with a new idea where I would start with the lowest baluster then add the next one making sure everything lined up correctly I got an extra set of hands (thanks Taylor) and it became so much easier to trial and error and cut until they were all right where we needed them When you get frustrated and don't know what to do to fix something, take a step back I've learned that DIY isn't about just making something yourself For me, It's become more about not being afraid of the mistakes (that I'll definitely make) and learning more about how to fix a problem It takes lots of patience So give yourself some grace today, you can learn to fix it tomorrow #livingroomdesign #interiordesign #paintitblack #livingroommakeover #diyhomerenovation #homerenovation #diyprojects #designer #familyroomdesign #familyroomdecor #dreamliving #diyfurniture #diyblogger #interiordesigner #stairdesign

This wall is mostly done! 🙌🏼 A tip I learne This wall is mostly done! 🙌🏼 A tip I learned is to mark all the little imperfections you want to fix with little pieces of painters tape At my architecture job we would do this for a "punch list" to help identify to the contractor items that still needed to be done I use this in my home, especially with paint. You'll notice the little piece of tape on the wall where I need to get some caulking in between 2 of the paneling boards. This tape is an easy to find marker so that I remember that needs to be touched up ALSO Some of you may not know this but we have a second dog! This is Wayne! He is a 12 y/o border collie mix. When his ears perk up, he looks like he has Batman ears and that's how he got his name... ...and also these bat wings 😂 🦇 Have you ever dressed your pets up for Halloween?! If you ever thought that these Instagram home renovations look organized and clean... well they're not This is our living room so we couldn't move the furniture anywhere else but that's the price I pay for wanting a beautiful space haha Priming should be ugly. It's not meant to be pretty and clean It will be streaky and blotchy but it's just intended to partially hide a darker color and give the top coat a good surface to adhere to Painting itself doesn't take long... it's the prep that takes forever! Save this post to come back and use as a checklist for wall prep: ◻️ wipe down walls - use degreaser if necessary ◻️ lightly sand everywhere ◻️ wipe sanding dust away with microfiber cloth ◻️ prime - I like to use Kilz! ◻️ for my paneling, I used a razor to scrape away imperfections that are now more visible with primer, specifically peeling edges to the wood film It feels like a lot, and it is...
