One Room Challenge – Week 2

One Week of Demolition Progress For my Powder Room Remodel

This week should be named “It is Going to Get Worse Before it Gets Better”.

I do my best to keep my ‘construction zone’s clean and to clean between each step so that I don’t get too overwhelmed with how chaotic a renovation can be.

I also have pets and if I leave the door open, I don’t want them trailing wallpaper adhesive throughout the house or to eat something dangerous. So I clean.

THE START

The first thing I did was take apart the vanity. It’s such a small space that it would be difficult to keep opening and closing the door so I pried open the window and tossed all the debris out the window onto a tarp!

TRIM

I plan to replace all the trim and have board and batten on part of the walls. I used a Trim Puller with a rubber mallet to remove all the window, door, and baseboard trim.

Once I removed all the trim, I had to use Channellock Pliers to pull out all the staples and nails left behind. I went ahead and did this now so that the space is ready to install trim next week.

THE WALLS

To prep the walls for the new design, I had to remove all the old stuff. Typically wallpaper has a decorative layer and an adhesive layer. I peeled off as much of the decorative layer as a I could before using the wallpaper steamer.

If you want to learn more about removing wallpaper with a steamer, check out this post about it!

DONE! JUST KIDDING

I finished almost everything for the week. I still have some of the wallpaper to remove but I am slowly seeing my vision. Removing the wallpaper really brightened the space and makes it easier to see the design.

WEEK 2 PLANS

This might be advantageous but I’ll be on vacation for week 4 so I want to stay on top of it!

  • Finish removing wallpaper adhesive
  • Sand down ceiling texture
  • Clean/Wipe Walls
  • Purchase board and batten and trim material
  • Install Window Trim
  • Cut Vanity Wood

Who thinks I’ll actually complete it all?
